Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has come under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Ex-state chairman Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase branded him a “spy” for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists in Ado Ekiti, Oguntuase explained why the PDP has not expelled Fayose despite allegations of anti-party activities. Fayose refused to support the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and endorsed APC’s Bola Tinubu instead.
Concerns have also arisen regarding Fayose’s recent public backing of Ekiti State Governor Abayomi Oyebanji for re-election in 2026.
Oguntuase emphasized the PDP’s focus on winning elections without Fayose. He stated, “Fayose has made it clear that he is not loyal to the PDP. We are more concerned about rebuilding our party and don’t have time to dignify him.”
He noted that Fayose’s apparent support for the opposition shows the need to exclude him from the party’s strategic planning.
Oguntuase praised the newly appointed caretaker committee led by Lanre Adeleke for their efforts to rebuild the PDP and prepare for future elections.
In closing, he asserted, “Fayose has shown that he will work against the party, so we must focus on strengthening the PDP with loyal members.”
