Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has said that rural communities in the territory are entitled to enjoy good governance and dividends of democracy under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Wike said this on Friday while inspecting the ongoing construction of the 11-kilometre Yangoji-Sukuku Ebo-Road and Kwali Unity Bank Road in Kwali Area Council of the territory.
He said , “Are rural communities not part of FCT, are they not supposed to have dividends of democracy. Development cannot come if it is concerntrated in the city. We have to take development to the rural areas.”
“I feel delighted that we are taking development to rural areas. For me, it is very important to ensure that while actualizing the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda President Bola Tinubu, rural communities also benefit from the dividend of democracy.”
The minister emphasized the need to ensure an even spread of development across both urban and rural communities, adding that widespread rural development would check the rising rural- urban push of migration.
According to the minister it is important to take infrastructural development to rural communities.
He stated, “You need to give them infrastructure to be able to develop their communities. Providing infrastructure, particularly roads, is key to the development of communities so that they can feel the impact of governance.”
Furthermore Wike urged the contractor, Gilmor Engineering Ltd, to speed up work on the project to ensure that timelines are met, as he also called on the Chairmen of Council to effectively monitor the execution of the projects instead of relying on secondhand reports.
