The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Tuesday approved three contracts in the sum of N2.6 billion for maintenance of Wupa basic sewage treatment plant, provision of solid waste collection and management services and Apo erector.

This was disclosed to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja by the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Mr. Felix Obuah after the FCT Executive Committee meeting.

The coordinator said, “In today’s Exco meeting we sought and got approval for the ratification and award of contracts for the operation and maintenance of Apo erector, and the extension of service for the operation and maintenance of Wupa basic sewage treatment plant.”

“And finally, we also sought and got approval for the extension of service contracts for the provision of solid waste collection and management services for a period of two months.”

“All these three approvals put together gave us almost a total of about 2.6 billion Naira” , Obuah stated.

Also , the Acting Executive Secretary Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda said that the seven memoranda he presented to the committee were all approved.

Dauda listed the upgrading and support of obsolete streetlights on the Nnamdi-Azikwe Expressway, Ring Road 1 Kilometer 10-lane expressway starting from Maitama to Gudu-Garki as part of the contracts approved.

He explained that the streetlights were completed around 2005 and 2006 and have been in use for the past 50 years, adding that it is now obsolete.
“The streetlights there have been there for close to 15 years now. The project was completed around 2005 or 2006 and the lights have become obsolete.
“They are no more bright and new technology has come for the street lighting. So the hybrid system will be deployed there to brighten the place and make it more secure and more motorable at night, and that memo was passed for implementation.”
He said other contracts on the approved list include the construction of one block of magistrate court at Jabi and the provision of pedestrian access control at interchanges.
“Another memo was for the construction of one block of magistrate court at Jabi, with the construction of access roads and drainages and culverts in Durumi district around the Apostolic Church and that was also approved. It involves construction of roads, several roads within part of the district of Durumi and totally about 1.7 kilometer”, he informed.
