FCTA Opening Up District Roads Encourages Rural Dev. Discourages Rural-Urban Drift – Wike

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr Nysome Wike had said that the opening of roads in districts is aimed at encouraging development in rural areas and to discourage rural -urban drifts.
Wike stated this Wednesday after a routine inspection of road projects sites at EFCC Academy, University of Abuja, Court of Appeal road at Giri district and the Inner Northern Expressway bridge.
Speaking to newsmen, the minister said that Road development is key to connectivity of districts to communities and cities, as this will encourage development at the two levels and discourage influx of people to the city.
Wike said, ” road is key to development, so people will move down to the districts when there are good roads instead of only residing within the city.”
“And that’s what we are praying for l, to discourage people from leaving the rural area to reside in the city only, adding that it will take at least only 15 minutes to the city centre.”

“We are also happy that the people are happy. You can imagine the communities there, how they feel that today they have a road connecting them to other parts of Abuja. That, of course, is the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“We are happy that the promises made are being kept to the glory of God”, the minister emphasized.
The minister further reiterated his believe that the various contractors handling the projects will keep their words to deliver some projects for the May Presidential commissioning, adding that it is a testament that all the promises made by the government to the people have been kept.
