FCTA pledges zero crime tolerance in territory, profiles Ruga Settlements

The Federal Capital Territory and Administration, FCTA has said that it would ensure that there is zero tolerance to crime and criminality in the territory.
Director Administration and Finance, Dr. Abdul-Lateef Bello made this known today at a press briefing in Abuja.

Bello said,” Based on statistics available to the Administration, there has been a steady and consistent drop in crime rate given the period under review. The FCTA has through some underlisted activities and achievements like security management, security operations and security Intelligence ensured a zero tolerance to both crime and criminality in the FCT.”

Speaking on the the records and achievements of Security Services Department , noted that although the Abuja Master plan which was originally planned for at least 1.5 million people now houses 6 million with pressure on infrastructure which creates social pressure which often times breeds criminalities.
He noted that the Security Services Department was created by the Administration to facilitate the protection of lives a property of residents of the FCT.

Bello said that for effective security management in the FCT, the FCTA provides consistent monthly logistics to the security agencies which leading to improvement in response to distress calls and 24/7 surveillance of the City.

He explained that to also tackle issues of herders/ farmers clashes in the territory in places like Dobi, Ibwa and Paikon- Bass village of Abaji Area Council and other communities, there was a meeting of Ardos/ SarkinFulanis with the Police to tackle the issue of Rugs Settlement through effective profiling of the settlements for security reasons.

The FCTA said it has started a G-7 joint security initiative with contiguous states like Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kaduna, Logo, Plateau and FCT for intelligence gathering and tracking of criminals and cross criminality syndicates.
Other security operations within the FCT include removal of shanties at Cashew Plantations by EFCC /NJC junction, removal of illegal trading structures and shanties at Katampe extension, Wuye, Zone 4, Kugbo Nyanya hideouts at NAN, GSM amongst others
