Federal Government Raises Salaries of Civil Servants

The Federal Government has sanctioned a salary increment ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants under the six existing Consolidated Salary Structures.

These structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

It’s noteworthy that prior to this, those in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors had already received their pay raises. This involved structures such as the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) for Universities, and others for Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and the Health Sector.

According to Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), these increases are effective from January 1, 2024.

Furthermore, the Federal Government has approved pension hikes ranging from 20% to 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme, corresponding to the six consolidated salary structures, also effective from January 1, 2024.

These announcements coincide with the upcoming May Day celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
