The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) is at the forefront of implementing the Performance Management System (PMS) in Nigeria’s public service.
This was revealed by Mrs. Titi Akisanya, the PMS Consultant from Zohar to FERMA, during the PMS appraisal session with the agency’s management at its headquarters on Thursday, September 27, 2024.
The Performance Management System (PMS) has become central to government reforms in recent years, serving as a modern tool for planning, management, budgeting, and improving accountability.
PMS is also regarded as a cutting-edge system that sets apart serious and forward-thinking organizations striving for excellence in the competitive landscape of the 21st century. Since its introduction by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), PMS has remained a priority for the Federal Government.
It is notable that PMS is one of the six pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP25).
Managing Director/CEO of FERMA, Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, Ph.D., DIC, FNSE, FNIHTE, along with other PMS stakeholders in the agency, has worked tirelessly over the past 18 months to position FERMA as one of the leading institutions in implementing the Performance Management System within Nigeria’s public service.
Agbasi emphasized that FERMA has embraced the Performance Management Reform Initiative to support the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
As a result, the agency has made significant progress. Over 97% of FERMA staff have prepared and signed Employee Performance Contracts with their immediate supervisors. Furthermore, FERMA has successfully completed the implementation of the Performance Management Cycle.
The completion of FERMA’s 2023 Performance Appraisal Closeout formed the basis for the 2024 Promotion Exercise, which was driven by the new Performance Management System.
This achievement has positioned FERMA as one of the leading organizations fully implementing the OHCSF’s PMS practices in Nigeria.
During the recently concluded PMS session with the Managing Director/CEO and the management team, Agbasi reiterated the agency’s commitment to building on the success of the PMS initiative and fostering a culture of performance management. This was detailed in a press statement issued by Maryam M. Sanusi (Mrs.), Director of Information/PR.
