The Federal Government has on Friday, approved the reopening of the remaining four land borders: Jibia, Idiroko, Kamba and Ikom.
After the Federal Executive Council reopened the four main land borders which is (Ilella, Mfun, Seme and Maigatari)in December 2020,this is coming after few years of shutting the borders due to incessant smuggling of arms ,weapons and contraband goods; the newly reopened borders bring the numbers to 8.
In a circular signed by the Deputy Comptroller Nigerian Customs Service Enforxement and Inspection E. I Edorhe, with the title ” Reopening of four additional Nigerian border post” the NCS directed all joint border patrol teams and Custom Formation to ensure the proper manning in compliance with extant operational guidelines.
Reacting to this, a member of the National Association Government Approved freight Forwarders, Mr Segun Musa Charged the Government to give explanations of what it has achieved for closing the borders, so as to assure Nigerians that the border closure was not a disaster; because a lot of businesses has been closed down.
Also speaking a member of the Association of Licensed Customs agents, Ojo Akintoye said the reopening of the borders was political.
