The Federal Government has called on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to ensure due diligence in developing a workable and acceptable revenue allocation formula for the country.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the call while receiving the management team of the Commission, led by its Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume expressed confidence in the Commission’s capacity to deliver a comprehensive revenue allocation formula. He assured them of his office’s readiness to provide the necessary support to achieve the project.
The SGF stressed the need for the formula to guarantee an irreducible minimum allocation to key ministries, departments and agencies, particularly the Ministry of Defence, due to its role in maintaining peace and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial sovereignty.
In his remarks, Dr. Shehu assured that the Commission was finalising a new revenue allocation formula, which would soon be forwarded to the SGF for input before submission to the National Assembly for approval.
