The Federal Government says its Youth Opportunity Summit has engaged more than 12,000 young Nigerians in local and global opportunities and supported over 80 entrepreneurs with grants exceeding N13 million since its launch in May 2024.
Hauwa Liman, Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Women, Youth Engagement and Impact, disclosed this at the seventh edition of the summit held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to Liman, the initiative, launched at Bayero University, Kano, has reached six cities and mobilised more than 255 young volunteers.“
“We have supported more than 80 entrepreneurs with over N13 million in grants and built a culture of service among young people,” she said. Liman described the summit as a platform that has enabled participants to secure national recognition, expand businesses and access global opportunities.Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Youth Development, Ekerete Ekanem, urged young people to take advantage of government programmes and acquire adaptable skills.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Comfort Ekpo, encouraged youths to seize available opportunities rather than wait for them.In his keynote address, economist and former Vice-Chancellor, Akpan Ekpo, called for collaboration among government, private sector and international partners to create systems that enable young people to thrive.
