Flood: Environment Minister Condoles with Borno Gov, Pledges Recovery Support

The Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has extended his condolences to Borno State Governor, Prof. Umaru Zulum, following the recent flood disaster that ravaged the state, according to a statement from the Ministry’s media department.

During his visit, the Minister expressed his deep sympathy and pledged the Federal Government’s support for Borno’s recovery efforts. He reassured the state of the government’s commitment to aiding flood recovery and mitigation initiatives.

Governor Zulum warmly received the Minister and his delegation, which included several high-ranking officials: Permanent Secretary Mahmoud Adam Kambari, Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Director of Erosion and Coastal Zones Management, and the Director of Press. Other members present were the National Project Coordinators for ACReSAL and NEWMAP, the Conservator-General of the National Park Service, and representatives from the Environmental Impact Assessment Department.

The team assessed the extent of the damage caused by the flood and explored sustainable solutions to enhance flood resilience, control erosion, and protect the environment. They discussed both immediate interventions and long-term strategies to safeguard communities and restore the affected areas.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to mobilizing resources and providing technical support to help Borno State address the environmental challenges caused by the flood.
