Former Archbishop of Canterbury Praises Uba Sani for Promoting Peace in Kaduna

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Portal Welby, has commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for what he described as notable progress in fostering peace and stability in the state despite its history of ethno-religious tensions.

Welby, the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury of England, made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Governor Sani at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

According to the former Anglican leader, the relative peace, unity, and stability currently enjoyed in Kaduna State motivated his visit. He recalled that his first visit to the state in 2002 coincided with a period marked by deep ethno-religious divisions and recurrent crises.

He noted that the significant improvement in peaceful coexistence under the present administration reflects deliberate leadership efforts, adding that his visit was intended to acknowledge the governor’s work and encourage the continuation of reconciliation and social cohesion.

Responding, Governor Uba Sani expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted the achievements of what he described as the “Kaduna Peace Model,” which prioritises inclusive governance, dialogue, and development.

The governor stated that the model has yielded tangible results over the past two and a half years, noting that the state has not experienced major ethno-religious crises since he assumed office.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equity, justice, and inclusive development across all communities, pledging to sustain peace and unity throughout Kaduna State.
