Former Chair of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, Edoumiekuno, has passed away.

Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, the former Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, has sadly passed away. A source close to his family shared this news on Saturday evening. Edoumiekumo, who previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State, succumbed to a brief illness on Friday night.

Notably, he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from Akeindenowei Primary School in Toru Angiama in 1982 and his West Africa School Certificate from Ajeromi Ifelodun High School in Lagos State in 1988. The late economics professor held a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and two Doctor of Philosophy Degrees, which he earned from the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State and the University of Nsukka.

On May 17, 2017, Edoumiekumo assumed the role of acting VC at NDU after the previous VC, Prof. Humprey Ogoni, completed his tenure. On May 2, 2018, he was officially appointed as the fourth substantive VC of the institution. Throughout his career, he also served as the Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities until his unfortunate passing.
