Gawuna commends Nigeria Legal Aid Council on justice practice

Kano State Deputy Governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has eulogised members of the Nigeria Legal Aid Council for their commitment in ensuring that common man is given the privilege of access to justice.

The Deputy Governor stated this while receiving delegates of the Nigeria Legal Aid Council who paid him a courtesy call in his office. 

Dr. Gawuna noted that there is nothing more to offer to less privilege people than access to justice at the time they are in need of help.

“For the work this council has been doing, actually, we have no words that we can appreciate you but to give you more encouragement that what you are doing is really good, ” Gawuna said.

On the modest achievements recorded by the administration especially on records and prison decongestion, Gawuna explained that the State worked closely with Correctional Department to ensure that prisons are decongested at least three times in a year.

He maintained that one way to decongest prisons is to reduce crimes and this explains the reason why the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje established Advance Police Controls Room equipped with modern digital equipment for the detection of criminal activities within the State.

While commenting on the Legal Aid Council retreat, the Deputy Governor attributed the choice of Kano to host the event to the cordial working relationship that exists between the Council and Kano State Government.

He therefore assured the council , government’s support to serve the people of the State as ” justice is the last resort to the common man “.

In his remarks, the Chairman Governing Council of the Nigeria Legal Aid Council also leader of the delegation Barrister Surajo Sa’ida said they were at the Deputy Governor’s Office to pay homage to Kano State Government and intimate him on the council’s retreat taking place in Kano.

“Is not surprising when we decided to choose Kano for this important event because the present administration has done ultimately well especially in the area of its free and compulsory basic education, ” he appreciated..

Earlier, the State Attorney General also Commissioner of Justice Barrister Musa Abdullahi Lawan disclosed that the retreat organised by the council is intended to widen the knowledge of its members especially on ways to enhance their performance.
