Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the Christmas Day attack on the Anwase community in Kwande Local Government Area, where unknown gunmen killed over ten people and injured several others.
The assailants reportedly stormed the community on December 25, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. According to *Daybreak Nigeria*, the attack claimed multiple lives and left many residents injured.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as an unprovoked assault on innocent citizens.
“The news of the gruesome murder of innocent residents in Anwase is deeply saddening,” the Governor said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to using lawful measures to protect the people of Benue State and called on security agencies to intensify their efforts to safeguard vulnerable communities.
“I can assure you, the perpetrators of this act will pay dearly for it,” Governor Alia said. “They may think they are not known, but they cannot be allowed to continue perpetrating this. It’s only a matter of time.”
The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and sympathized with the injured, pledging that those responsible for the heinous act would face justice.
Governor Alia urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to help prevent further attacks.
