Gov Alia Swears 3 New LG Caretaker Committee Chairmen, Charges Them To Uphold Transparency, Accountability

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has sworn in three new Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen with a charge on them to be alive to their responsibilities of providing effective service delivery to the people.

The swearing-in of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen came on the heels of the removal of the former Caretaker Committee Chairmen by the Benue State House of Assembly, on the grounds of mismanagement and misappropriation of local government Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Performing the ceremony at the Government House, Makurdi at the weekend, the Governor charged them to uphold transparency, accountability, commitment in the course of their services to the people for faster development.

In a statement by the Governor’s Principal Special Assistant on Media, Bridget Kyado, quoted her Boss as disclosing that Local Government Areas being the third tier of government is critical to the operation of his government, since it plays a key role in the provision of social services to the people.

The Governor who cautioned the newly sworn in Caretaker Committee Chairmen against mismanagement of local government resources, charged them to bring about the needed change in their various councils. He reiterated his administration’s commitment towards ensuring accountability and and adherence to due process in governance.

Continuing Governor Alia, stressed that ” your predecessors are disengaged because of their lack of commitment, lack of transparency, lack of accountability, lack of dedication and responsibility”.

The new Caretaker Committee Chairmen include; Hon Verlumun Avar, Gboko Local Government, Hon Justin Shaku, Katsina-Ala Local Government and Hon Victor Iorzaa, Ukum Local Government Areas respectively.

Responding on behalf of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen, the Caretaker Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Hon Justin Shaku promised to ensure development is achieved in their various councils to replicate the transformation agenda of Governor Hyacinth Alia led administration.
