Gov Oborevwori charges NYSC Corps members on nation building

By Anne Azuka

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State on Tuesday charged the newly deployed members of the National Youths Service Corps(NYSC) in the State to participate actively in all the activities designed to properly condition them physically and mentally for the demands of the service year and the larger challenge of operating as effective agents of change and nation building.

Oborevwori gave the charge during the Opening Ceremony and Swearing-in of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Orientation Course for Corps members deployed to the State at the Permanent Orientation Camp Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the State.

The governor, represented at the ceremony by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari noted that his administration considers Corps members as critical partners in transformation efforts, which government was driving through social contract with the people of Delta
State as encapsulated in the MORE Agenda.

Oborevwori who equally declared the Orientation Course formally Open expressed the hope that Corps members would live up to the scheme’s objective of fostering bridges of love, harmony and productive integration across the country.

“Over the years, the NYSC has become an enduring vehicle for the mobilization and sensitisation of the youths of Nigeria to their responsibilities as the
successor generation in the task of nation-building and our quest for abiding
national cohesion.

“It is my expectation that the worthy antecedents of your predecessors will spur you to equally register noteworthy achievements during your service year”, he stated.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator NYSC Delta State, Mr. Alao Olusegun Olaosebikan disclosed that a total of one thousand nine hundred and eleven (1,911) Prospective Corps
Members have been deployed in the state.

Alao implored Corps members to explore every available avenue to make the Orientation course a memorable one and the service year highly rewarding.

While expressing appreciation to Governor Oborevwori led administration for his unwavering support to the NYSC Alao appealed to the state government to expedite action in fulfilling the promise of a new 150 KVA
diesel generator and the Camp perimeter fence which would assist greatly in safe-
guarding government’s huge investments in the Camp.
