Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed shock over the demise of the Chairman, Buruku Local Government Area, Hon. Daniel Deajir, decribing it as devastating.
The Governor described the deceased as a perfect gentleman and diligent Administrator whom he said was already making impact in the stewardship at the local government area before his sudden death.
Ortom who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase maintained that the demise of the council Chairman is a blow to the entire state. He condoled the family, Government and people of Buruku Local Government over the irreparable loss.
Findings by Day Break showed that, Mr Deajir died at public hospital in Makurdi after a brief illnesses.
Meanwhile, Governor Ortom has sworn in the Deputy Chairman of the local government, Mr Andrew Iorver as the new Chairman following the death of the substantive Chairman.
Performing the ceremony at the Government House Makurdi, the Governor noted that the death has created a vacuum, explaining that it was constitutional for the Vice Chairman to take over the mantle of leadership to ensure that the rule of law and norms which governs the nation’s practice of democracy was observed.
Ortom who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu charged the new Chairman to allow fairness reigns and justice dictate his every step in the course of his duty.
