By Jabiru Hassan

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed sympathy with residents of Rogo Local Government Area following a fire outbreak that damaged parts of the Rogo General Hospital, directing an immediate assessment and full renovation of the affected facility.

The governor’s response to the Rogo General Hospital fire incident was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The incident occurred on Thursday and affected sections of the hospital, a key healthcare facility serving the local community.

Governor Yusuf described the fire as unfortunate and deeply saddening, stressing that hospitals are critical public institutions that must remain safe, functional, and accessible at all times. He noted that any disruption to healthcare services poses serious risks to public well-being.

According to the statement, the governor immediately directed relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by the fire. He instructed that a detailed report be submitted without delay to enable swift government intervention.

In addition to the assessment, Governor Yusuf ordered the full renovation and rehabilitation of the affected sections of Rogo General Hospital. The directive, he said, is aimed at ensuring the rapid restoration of healthcare services and preventing prolonged disruption to medical care for residents.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state. He emphasized that his government remains focused on improving the quality, safety, and resilience of public hospitals in all 44 local government areas of Kano State.

He assured the people of Rogo that the state government would not relent in its efforts to upgrade medical facilities, provide essential equipment, and create a conducive environment for healthcare workers to deliver quality services.

Governor Yusuf further stressed that protecting public infrastructure, particularly healthcare institutions, remains a top priority of his administration. He noted that prompt response to emergencies such as the Rogo General Hospital fire incident reflects the government’s resolve to safeguard lives and public assets.

Residents of Rogo Local Government Area were urged to remain calm as the assessment and renovation processes commence. The governor assured that necessary measures would be taken to ensure the hospital resumes full operations as quickly as possible.

The state government did not disclose details on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage but confirmed that relevant agencies have been mobilised to handle the situation professionally and transparently.

The Rogo General Hospital fire incident has drawn attention to the importance of safety measures in public health facilities, with the government reiterating its commitment to proactive maintenance and emergency preparedness across the state’s healthcare system.
