Government to Conclude Wage Award for Workers Soon, Assures Lalong

The Federal Government is on the verge of finalizing the wage award for workers, according to Governor Simon Lalong. He made this statement while urging the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) not to proceed with its planned strike but to allow the government to address all outstanding issues.

In the meantime, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) expressed gratitude to the Minister for his efforts in securing the release of some of its members who were arrested two weeks ago by government authorities.

Governor Lalong conveyed his appreciation during a visit from Alhaji Ibikunle Baruwa, who led a four-member NURTW delegation to his office. He emphasized the importance of industrial harmony for a nation’s socio-economic development and encouraged the union to collaborate with the Federal Government to advance the country.

Lalong also mentioned that securing the release of detained NURTW members was among the demands made by the NLC during their recent meeting with the Ministers of Labour and Employment. He assured the NURTW delegation that the processes leading to the fulfillment of other NLC requests, particularly regarding wage awards, were progressing well and would be concluded soon.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, also appealed to the NURTW factions to maintain peace and allow the Ministry to mediate their dispute for an amicable resolution.

The NURTW delegation expressed its gratitude for the efforts of both the Minister and the Minister of State for facilitating the release of their members on bail.
