Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has announced that the Sokoto Community Guard Corps is now equipped to better protect rural communities. This development was highlighted during a recent thank you visit to the Kebbe Local Government Area, part of his tour across four local government areas in the Sokoto South Senatorial zone.
In a statement from his media aide, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu revealed that previous challenges with inadequate office accommodation, which had hindered the corps’ operations—especially in the 13 local government areas most affected by banditry—have been resolved. “We have provided the corps with the necessary logistics and completed the office accommodations for their operations,” Aliyu stated.
He urged the people of Sokoto to continue supporting the corps to ensure effective performance in their duties.
Regarding the Kebbe bridge, which is at risk of collapsing, Governor Aliyu ordered an immediate assessment for its reconstruction to prevent the Kebbe community from being isolated from other parts of the state.
Additionally, progress is being made on the installation of 250 solar-powered street lights in Kebbe Local Government Area. The governor also announced plans to renovate two Jumuat mosques and construct two feeder roads in the area.
In Tambuwal, Governor Aliyu assured that the Alhasan-Fagga-Bakaya road project, valued at N2 billion, and the Prison-Yagawal-Na Baguda road project, costing N2.6 billion, will be completed. He also committed to constructing the Jega-Samo, Romo-Kaya-Barga, and Gudul-Kandamare-Rijiya road projects.
For Shagari Local Government, the governor pledged to build the Dandin Mahe-Mabera, Era-Rijiyar Malam, and Ginga Junction-Horo Birni feeder roads, along with renovating two Jumuat mosques.
In Yabo, Governor Aliyu assured the construction of the Kilgori-Kwaidaza, Magacci-Ruggar Kizo, and Bingaje-Beno feeder roads, and the renovation of Yabo Jumuat mosque.
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, an APC leader in the state, praised Governor Aliyu for his focus on people-oriented projects, noting significant improvements in road networks, water supply, sanitation, education, healthcare, empowerment, and religious affairs during his first year in office.
Former Minister of Police Affairs Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi urged the state’s residents to continue supporting the administration for further benefits.
During the visit to Shagari Local Government, Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor Mukhtari Shagari announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
