Governor Sani and a state in the throes of terrorists

Must read

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

In Kaduna it’s no longer news that the state is in the eyes of the storm and in dire need of urgent solution to the incessant attacks, abductions and killings of innocent children by rampaging terrorists.

Within two weeks alone, bandits struck in so many areas around Kaduna and its environment with many innocent people abducted including women and children, and several others killed in Birinin Gwari, Gonin Gora, Kuriga, Kajuru, Chikun.LGAs amongst others.

Questions being consistently asked by many without corresponding answer, however have to do with the reason for the sudden re-escalating and intensity of terrorists and heinous criminal activities targeting Kaduna state and environments.

While many have fashioned out and attributed the current wave of ruthless brutal bandits attacks on Kaduna to the commentaries and moves by the current State Governor, Uba Sani to resettle displaced Southern Kaduna people to their ancestral home, Some others are of the belief that the refusal to negotiate or appoint negotiator to negotiate with the bandits on behalf of government might have also ignited the current heightened insecurity as demonstrated by bandits aggression against innocent civilians to provoke state actors to have a rethink.

Be that as it may, Governor Uba Sani has maintained unshakable stand and promised to work toward ensuring safe return of the kidnapped pupils, students, teachers and others.

However, the workability of the promises made by the Governor is a serious matter of debate, given the recent multiple invasion, attacked, kidnappings, killings, with more people displaced in some parts of Southern Kaduna areas.

Recalled that there was relative peace immediately on assumption of office in May 2023, by Governor Sani, after the exit of his predecessor Mal. Nasir El-rufai who had once traveled and paid and settled some foreign Fulanis’ to stop killing in Southern parts of Kaduna state.

Although, prior to his exit, El-rufai had, made it clear, that his successor’s government is going to be more tougher, a statement many still find difficult to place in proper perspective.

Not withstanding, Governor Sani has no doubt, upturned some of El-rufai:s policies considered not in tune with the current reality of time and changes, including hike in school fees of the state owned tertiary institutions, amongst other policies that were obviously perceived as anti masses.

But whether or not the resettlement of displaced Southern Kaduna people in which committee, headed by the deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Haj. Hadiza Balarabe, had already been setup, may come easy, is also a subject of debate.

Foresighted Nigerians, have however suggested that what’s required most expediently to ease the reign of terror now, is more dividends of democracy such as widespread quality healthcare system, schools, housing, good roads, rural infrastructure and foods; instead of arms and ammunitions for war against terrorists and terrorism.
