Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the pledge today while officially flagging off the GO GREEN PROJECT held at the premises of UBE Smart School along Maituta road sokoto.
Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the State Government is determined to encouraging such partnership between the State Universal Basic Education Board and GO GREEN Project which is aimed at establishing Orchards and Gardens in schools which will create conducive teaching and learning atmosphere for both teachers and pupils across the state.
He said sokoto state government deemed it necessary to key into the partnership in view of the fact that the problems of climate change,desertification and drought remain contemporary challenges of our state which is one of the eleven front line states in Nigeria lighted with ecological problems.
The partnership according to the governor is also central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs by the year 2030.
Tambuwal hinted that the state government under his leadership will establish Climate Change Management Agency as part of effort to synergies to ensure effective management of environmental and water shed issues.
He described the resuscitation and formal inauguration of Young Foresters Clubs as a clear indication of good begining for the take up of the GO GREEN Project.
The governor explained the selection of Primary and Junior Secondary Schools for the implementation of the project as not only timely but also strategic for inculcating the culture of environmental conservation and agro entrepreneurship among pupils in the more professional way.
He promised to donate a trophy to the best performing school in tree plantation under the GO GREEN PROJECT.
In his remarks,the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji explained that the GO GREEN Project is a partnership between Shehu Maikoli Foundation,Eco Africa Climate Change Foundation and the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ.
Alhaji Altine Shehu who is also the Executive Chairman Shehu Maikoli Foundation said Sokoto Subeb deemed it imperative to enter into partnership with the GO GREEN Project with a view to establishing Orchards and Gardens in schools, carrying out road sides plantation,distribution and plantation of indiginous moringa and environmental trees to farmers,women and households as well as establishment and reactivation of Young Foresters Clubs in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.
According to him the project will also poster green consciousness, elevate and empower younger generation, actors of environmental conservation and protection by providing them with flat forms for practical opportunity through tree planting, Quiz and Debate on environmental education.
Other speakers at the occasion included Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar represented by the district head of Kilgori and Sa’in Daular Usmaniya Alhaji Jabbi Kilgori, Commissioners of Basic and Secondary Education Dr M.B Abubakar Guiwa, Environment Aliyu Balarabe Dandinmahe, representative of the founder and President of Al-Ansar Foundation Dr. Muhammad Kyari Dikwa and Executive Chairman SOZECOM Engineer Muhammad Lawal Maidoki.
Earlier in a welcome address the Permanent Secretary Subeb Alhaji Ahmad Ibrahim said inline with global agenda to addressing issues bordering on climate change and concerted effort to attend SDGs goal 17, the State Universal Basic Education Board deemed it necessary to partner with GO GREEN Project to ensure greening in its schools.
