A pastor affiliated with The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Olugbenga Olawore, along with other passengers traveling in a 14-seater bus, fell victim to abduction in Oyo State.
Reports indicate that the clergyman and fellow travelers were kidnapped on Friday night along the Maya axis of the Lanlate-Eruwa Road.
The pastor was reportedly returning from Ipapo town, where he had been finalizing arrangements for his mother’s burial.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, informed journalists that some of the victims had been rescued.
Osifeso elaborated that police personnel, in collaboration with other security agencies and local hunters, were actively engaged in the forested areas and surrounding environs to secure the release of the remaining hostages and apprehend the perpetrators.
He stated, “Some of the rescued victims are providing valuable information that can aid the ongoing investigation. Comprehensive searches are being conducted in all routes near the vicinity, including the adjacent forest areas.”
“The investigation is currently underway, and updates will be provided as the situation progresses,” Osifeso concluded.
