Habits that can damage the brain

The brain is the most important organ in the body. Therefore, it is crucial you Maintain a healthy brain to keep the mind active and thinking abilities stable.
The late-night parties, hectic work schedules, eating junk food and other unhealthy habits, all pose a threat to your brain. In the hustle and bustle of life, we all do things that lead to numerous health issues. Here are a few habits that can damage your brain:

1. Smoking
‘Smoking is injurious to health’ – this fact is not hidden from anybody but we still choose to do otherwise. Smoking increases the cholesterol levels and fat circulating in the blood, leading to an accumulation of unhealthy fats in the brain. This buildup narrows the arteries and restricts blood flow to the brain. This blocked blood flow can also lead to a brain stroke.

2. High Sugar Consumption
Consuming too much sugar can be harmful to your brain. A study reported that even a little bit of sugar in the bloodstream can damage the brain, which may result in a cognitive inability or memory problems. Also, a study published in the Journal of Depression and Anxiety indicated that higher rates of sugar consumption are linked to higher rates of depression.

3. Overeating
Overeating may lead to more health problems than just expand your midsection. Research from Mount Sinai Medical Center found that “overeating impairs the ability of brain insulin to suppress the breakdown of fat in adipose tissue.” Basically, overeating hardens the arteries of the brain and lead to a deficit in your brain. Overeating is not good in general; it increases the risk of developing other diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity, etc.

4. Overworking your Brain
The long hours of work are good for the company you work for, it sure isn’t good for your brain. Overworking your brain may lead to age-related cognitive decline and thinking skills, according to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. You should also not work too hard if you are sick as that can also damage the normal functioning of your brain.

5. Covering your Head while Sleeping
Many people have a habit of covering their heads with a pillow when they sleep, especially during chilly winters. If you are one of those people, you should stop today. This can block oxygen, which can easily lead to brain damage. Covering your head can lead to the accumulation of carbon dioxide around the face, which can lead to nerve damage. However, more research is required to conclude this. In any case, you should avoid doing this to prevent brain damage.
