Hizbah Board Visits Senator Wamakko, Seeks Support, Advice, and Receives 10 Motorcycles

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The management of the Sokoto State Hizbah Board has paid a courtesy visit to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko at his Gawon Nama residence in Sokoto to formally introduce the board and seek his support and guidance in its operations.

The Board Chairman, Dr. Rufa’i Usman Rungumi, informed the Senator that the visit was intended to brief him on the board’s activities and achievements since its inauguration 55 days ago. This was disclosed by Senator Wamakko’s Special Adviser, Bashar Abubakar.

Speaking during the visit, the Director General of the Hizbah Board, Mallam Nura Abdullahi Attajiri, emphasized that the board is now fully operational with legal backing to guide its activities.

In his remarks, the Commandant of the Board, Mallam Usman Abdullahi Jatau, highlighted several accomplishments within the short period since its establishment. These include the confiscation of illegal substances, addressing misconceptions within communities, and promoting lawful practices across the state.

Mallam Jatau further explained the structure of the board, which comprises three key units: administration, operations, and intelligence, each led by a unit head. He assured that the board operates strictly within the legal framework governing its activities.

He expressed gratitude to the Sokoto State Governor and Senator Wamakko for their support in re-establishing the board, which he said has significantly contributed to curbing unlawful activities in the state.

The Commandant also appealed for additional support from Senator Wamakko to enhance the board’s operations.

In his response, Senator Wamakko commended the board for its efforts and dedication. He acknowledged the challenges the board faces, particularly in addressing societal resistance to acknowledging wrongdoing.

“The work of the Hizbah is simple in principle, as it is for the sake of Allah, but challenging in practice given the current societal attitudes,” Wamakko remarked. He advised the board to exercise patience and resilience in carrying out its duties.

The Senator pledged to forward the board’s requests to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for necessary action and announced the donation of ten brand-new motorcycles to aid the board’s operations.

The meeting was attended by several members of the Hizbah Board.
