Holding State Governors Accountable: The Key to Good Governance and Youth Development in Nigeria.

By: Dr Sagir Sadisu Buhari FCIA.

Recent protests across Nigeria highlight the urgent need for good governance and accountability. Young Nigerians demand better leadership, transparency, and opportunities.

Corruption among governors and state officials has far-reaching consequences, including poor service delivery, protest, youth unrest, and social tension.

To address these challenges, Federal Anti-Corruption agencies must take decisive action to prevent and combat corruption, ensuring accountability and transparency in public fund management.

When Governors and officials are held accountable, they prioritize public needs, allocate resources efficiently, and implement beneficial policies.

The recent protests demonstrate that young Nigerians will no longer tolerate a system perpetuating corruption and inequality.

It’s time for the government to listen and take concrete steps towards accountability and transparency.

By holding State Governors accountable, we can create a more responsive government that truly serves the people.

Federal Anti-Corruption agencies such as EFCC and ICPC must intensify efforts to investigate and prosecute corruption cases, conduct regular audits, collaborate with legislatures, judiciary, and engage with civil society organizations.

We demand the following from our State Governors in Nigeria: 1. Monthly allocation explanations: Governors must explain to the masses how they utilize federal allocations, ensuring transparency and accountability.

2. Detailed expenditure breakdowns: Governors must provide clear explanations of first-line charges, including salaries, overheads, and capital payments, with details of each project executed.

3. Transparent fund management: Governors must account for remaining funds and outline planned expenditures, ensuring alignment with budgetary provisions.

4. Realistic and scientific budgeting: Governors must present realistic and scientifically-backed budgets, with transparent reporting systems to prevent excess expenditures and leakages.

5. Youth development and resource allocation transparency: Governors must adopt transparent approaches to youth development programs and resource allocations, ensuring equitable distribution and impact.

By implementing these measures, we can create a more responsive government that truly serves the people.

Federal Anti-Corruption agencies must intensify efforts to investigate and prosecute corruption cases, conduct regular audits, collaborate with state legislatures, and engage with civil society organizations.

Citizens have a critical role in demanding accountability and transparency. By staying informed, participating in public forums, reporting corruption cases, and supporting anti-corruption initiatives, we can create a culture of accountability and transparency.

Together, let’s demand accountability and shape a brighter future for our youth by supporting President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for a better Nigeria and fighting against corruption.

God bless Nigeria.
