Humanitarian Minister Doro Condoles Borno Government, Victims Over Gomboru Mosque Bomb Blast

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, has expressed deep condolences to the Borno State Government and residents following a tragic bomb blast at a mosque in Gomboru area of Maiduguri, which claimed lives and left several worshippers injured.In a statement issued on Thursday and made available to journalists in Jos, the minister described the attack as a heinous act carried out against innocent civilians during worship, noting that it represents a direct assault on peace, faith, and shared human values.Dr. Doro said the Federal Government is profoundly saddened by the incident, which occurred within a sacred space meant for prayer and reflection, stressing that such violence continues to inflict pain on families and communities already affected by years of insecurity.“

We are deeply saddened by this heinous act perpetrated against innocent worshippers within a sacred space,” the minister said. “This violence is not only an attack on lives and livelihoods, but also on our collective values of peace, faith, and humanity.”He extended sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the Gomboru mosque bomb blast and offered prayers for the quick recovery of those injured during the incident.Dr. Doro reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity across the country, expressing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the government’s renewed and coordinated security strategy.

According to him, the current administration is taking decisive steps to confront the root causes of insecurity, strengthen national security architecture, and restore lasting peace and stability in affected regions.He noted that the humanitarian implications of such attacks remain a major concern, particularly for vulnerable populations, and assured that his ministry will continue to prioritize support for communities impacted by violence.“At this painful moment, we stand in solidarity with the Borno State Government and the resilient people of Borno,” Dr. Doro stated. “We reaffirm our collective resolve to support efforts aimed at protecting civilians, strengthening community safety, and ensuring that acts of terror do not weaken our unity or national resolve.”

The minister added that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is already engaging with relevant security agencies, the Borno State Government, humanitarian partners, and community leaders to provide immediate relief to affected families.He said these interventions include the delivery of humanitarian assistance, psychosocial support for victims and their families, and coordination of relief efforts to address urgent needs arising from the attack.

Dr. Doro also emphasized the importance of reinforcing security measures around places of worship and other public spaces to prevent future attacks and protect civilians.He called on Nigerians to remain united against terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that national resilience and cooperation remain critical to overcoming insecurity. The minister concluded by offering prayers for comfort to grieving families, healing for the injured, and enduring peace for Borno State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.“ May the Almighty grant comfort to all who grieve, strength and healing to the injured, and lasting peace to Borno State and Nigeria,” the statement added.
