The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has set up a Committee to fine – tune it’s strategic Roadmap for the implementation and Coordinating framework.
Members of the Committee drawn from departments and Agencies under the Ministry was inaugurated in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.
Sani-Gwarzo noted that the theme of the Roadmap, “Mapping out a life of dignity for all ” is in line with the Ministry’s mandate which includes development of humanitarian policies, coordination of National and International humanitarian interventions, ensuring strategic disaster mitigation, and social preparedness response among others.
He explained that the Ministry developed a 7 pillars Strategic Roadmap on action plans and strategies which includes strengthening policies and Institutional Frameworks, Building Evidence-Based systems for Transparency and Accessibility.
” Effective Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism, Optimizing Funding and Resourcing Opportunities, Strategic Partnership, Collaborations and Disability Inclusion.”
“Mainstreaming of sustainable Development Goals and Integration of Social Initiatives and Investment Programmes.”
Dr. Sani-Gwarzo urged the Committee members to commence work immediately and to put up a timeline of action.
Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr.Peter Nwakpa, stated that the Roadmap is a five year strategic plan of action to synergize the Ministry and its Agencies with the aim of achieving the Mandate, vision, and mission of the Ministry in Coordinating the activities of the humanitarian sector.
The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr. Emem Omokaro, said that the strategic Roadmap was significant to the Center.
Daybreak reports that the Ministry will hold the first Nigeria International Humanitarian Summit on the 9th of February 2023.
