A socio-cultural organisation, Ndi Na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation (NNABSCO), has called on the Federal Government to obey all valid court judgments and release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, without further delay.
The call was made in a statement issued by NNABSCO’s President, Chief Onyenwemadu Kingsley Kainebi; Secretary, Mr. Benjamin Ofochi-Atagana, Esq; and Patron, Chief Agada Cosmas Chike, and made available to journalists in Asaba.
According to the group, obedience to the rule of law remains the ultimate test of a government’s legitimacy and its commitment to justice and fairness.
The statement noted that after extensive deliberations, NNABSCO resolved to support all lawful efforts toward Kanu’s release, describing his continued detention as unjust and unconstitutional.
“The organisation demands the immediate release of this notable Igbo freedom fighter,” the statement read. “We lend our unalloyed support to every lawful move, including nationwide peaceful protests, calling for his freedom.”
NNABSCO also declared its support for the peaceful demonstration scheduled for Monday, as announced by activist Omoyele Sowore, stating that it had officially signed up to participate in the nationwide action.
The group urged security agencies to respect citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest and free expression, stressing that the protest aims to draw attention to the violation of citizens’ rights and the disregard for court rulings.
“Our organisation stands for lawful, non-violent advocacy. Justice for one Nigerian is justice for all. Nigeria cannot know peace without fairness, nor unity without truth,” the statement said.
It further described Nnamdi Kanu as a “prisoner of conscience,” detained for nearly a decade despite several court rulings ordering his release. The group warned that the government’s refusal to comply with judicial orders undermines democracy and sets a dangerous precedent.
“This situation reinforces long-held concerns of discrimination against the Igbo people, especially when others accused of similar or more serious offences have been freed or pardoned,” the statement added. “Selective justice weakens national unity and widens divisions among Nigeria’s diverse communities.”
NNABSCO called on Nigerians of goodwill across ethnic and religious lines to join in demanding justice, equity, and adherence to the rule of law as the foundation of a peaceful and democratic society.
