Immigration Personnel Ordered to Resume Duty as Borders Reopen

In response to the directive for the reopening of Nigeria’s borders with Niger Republic, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has instructed all personnel deployed to the Nigeria-Niger border to resume their duties.

This directive was issued in a statement signed by the Acting Service Public Relations Officer, Mr Kenneth Kure, on Thursday in Abuja.

The decision to reopen the borders follows an earlier order by the Federal Government and President Bola Tinubu’s directive to lift sanctions against Niger Republic, including the closure of land and air borders. These sanctions were imposed in line with the decision of ECOWAS, which had implemented measures against Niger Republic following a coup that ousted President Mahmed Bazoum.

President Tinubu’s directive, issued on Wednesday, not only involved reopening Nigeria’s land and air borders with Niger but also included the lifting of other sanctions against Niger Republic and Guinea.

In compliance with these directives, the CGI has instructed all Comptrollers stationed at States and Border Commands along the Nigeria-Niger Republic border to promptly lift all restrictions on human movement.

The CGI emphasized the commitment of the service to facilitating safe and orderly border crossings while maintaining the integrity and security of Nigeria’s borders.
