‘Imo Residents Deserve Improved Governance,’ Says Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential Candidate

By Daniel Edu

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, voiced his concern about the need for better governance in Imo State. Speaking at the grand finale of Senator Athan Achonu’s governorship campaign held at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Complex in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Obi emphasized that the people of Imo deserve more effective leadership than what the current administration offers.

Addressing party supporters on Tuesday, Obi urged Imo residents to stay vigilant, safeguard their votes, and cast their ballots for Achonu, the LP’s governorship candidate in the upcoming November 11 Imo governorship election. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the prevailing hardships, inflation, and insecurity in the state and the nation, asserting that the LP has the potential to transform the state positively.

Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that it had made limited efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the Nigerian masses. He called upon the people of the state to demonstrate their discontent with the APC administration by voting for the LP candidate and ensuring the integrity of their votes on Saturday.

Achonu, addressing the gathering as well, outlined his plans for the state if elected governor. He emphasized his commitment to addressing insecurity, generating employment opportunities for the youth, and advocating for local government autonomy as key priorities of his administration.
