INEC creates additional Registration Centres in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Anambra State has created additional 25 registration centres, thereby bringing the total number to 87 centres in the state.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, stated this on Tuesday, during a press briefing on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in the State.

According to him, creating additional centres was one of the measures adopted by the commission to address the sudden surge in the number of those seeking to register.

He also said that the commission has also reopened all the centres in the state that were shut down as a result of insecurity.

“I am pleased to announce that the Commission has created additional 25 registration centres in Anambra State and that they commenced operation by 9.00am today. The additional centres bring the total number of centres in Anambra to 87,” he said.

“We have also reopened some LGA offices that were shut down as a result of insecurity. Specifically, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, the
Idemili North LGA Office was reopened. Today, June 14, 2022, we have resumed registration exercise in Ogbaru and Ayamelum LGAs.”

He also said that the commission had reorganised its operational procedure by separating people seeking biometric services from those that require non-biometric services.

According to him, the biometric services involve fresh registration while non-biometric services include request for PVC Replacement, Voter Transfer, and Update.

Orji said that those requesting non-biometric services need not come to the registration centres, rather they should do them with their android phones.

He also said that immediately after the transfer, update and replacement are completed the person would be prompted with a message which will be used to collect his/her PVC at preferred areas.

“These services can be obtained through the Commission’s CVR Portal. However, we have deployed personnel to assist those who cannot access the online portal at the various registration centres. In areas where the security situation permits, we would extend our time of operation, which is 9.00am to 3.00pm. We would continue to expand our public communication to inform and educate members of the public,” he said.

Orji said the commission had suspended the personnel accused of extorting money and an investigation is ongoing on the matter.

He appealed to the registrants to exercise patience and understanding and show cooperation at this challenging time.
