The Benue State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the discovery of the body of a young woman, yet to be identified, found at a refuse dump in Makurdi.
State Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene confirmed the development, stating, “We have already opened an investigation into the matter. The identity of the victim is still unknown.” The command is committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding her death.
The lifeless body was found tied, placed in a sack, and abandoned at a refuse dump around Iorapuu Adai Street, Nyima Hudco Quarters, Makurdi, as reported on Sunday.
The incident follows a similar case in July 2023 when the Benue State Environmental Sanitation Agency and the Benue Police Command confirmed the death of Dorcas Shangev, a woman found dead with missing body parts 24 hours after her birthday. She used to reside at the Owner Occupier in Makurdi.
Additionally, a month earlier, Oliver Vershima, a catechist from St. Martins Parish, Mbape, Adikpo deanery, Kwande Local Government Area, fled after being caught with the corpse of a lady. These incidents raise concerns about the safety and security of individuals in the state.
