The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has certified a director, Mrs. Olayinka Shodunke, and 21 other staff members as international examiners by the City & Guilds of London Institute, strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to deliver globally recognised skills certification. The certification followed City & Guilds’ formal approval of the ITF as an Approved Examination Centre, according to a statement issued in Jos by Thomas Ngor, Head of Press and Public Relations at the ITF.
The approval, communicated on November 1, 2024, by City & Guilds Chief Executive Officer, Kirstie Donnelly, MBE, authorises the ITF to deliver, assess, and certify a range of international qualifications. With the accreditation, the ITF can now administer City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 diplomas and certificates in trades including electrical and electronics engineering, engineering maintenance, ICT systems, plumbing, bricklaying, hospitality services, culinary arts, and IT support.Speaking on the development, Mrs. Shodunke, who also leads the ITF’s Standardisation, Certification and Consultancy Services Department, described the certification as a major milestone.
She credited the Director-General of the ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, for securing the approval and aligning the agency with global standards. She said the development would strengthen the Federal Government’s Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme by enabling trainees to earn internationally recognised qualifications, improving their employability in Nigeria and abroad.
