JUST IN: National Grid Collapses for the 12th Time in 2024

By Abigail Philip David

Nigerians were thrown into darkness on Wednesday following yet another collapse of the national power grid. This marks the 12th collapse of the grid in 2024 alone.

The latest incident occurred at approximately 2:09 PM, as confirmed in a statement via the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid. “The major grid setback has occurred, and the restoration is to commence,” the tweet read.

This year has been marked by frequent grid failures, with 11 collapses recorded between January and November. In October alone, the grid failed three times within one week, resulting in widespread blackouts and public outcry.

Efforts to stabilize the grid have faced significant challenges, leaving Nigerians grappling with intermittent power supply.

Further details on the cause of the collapse and restoration efforts are expected soon.
