The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Comfort Emmanson and an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, for further investigation into an incident that occurred aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this during a Q&A session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held Tuesday in Abuja.
Achimugu confirmed that he had spoken with Emmanson earlier in the day and that both she and the crew member involved would appear before the authority for questioning.
“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” he said.
He clarified that the pilot did not request security personnel upon arrival in Lagos, as the situation appeared to have been resolved during the flight. However, Emmanson, who went to the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark.
Reassuring the public, Achimugu said the NCAA was committed to a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the full facts.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, blamed the rising cases of misconduct in the aviation sector on a decline in discipline among both passengers and aviation workers.
He urged strict adherence to professional standards and commended the NCAA’s enforcement efforts, calling on other aviation agencies to support the regulator in maintaining industry safety and security.
