JUST IN: NLC, TUC suspend FCT protest after meeting with Wike, Senate committee

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have suspended their planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory, directing workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration to resume work immediately.

The decision followed an overnight meeting between labour leaders, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and members of the Senate Committee on the FCT, which began late Monday and ended in the early hours of Tuesday.

Labour leaders said the engagement resulted in agreements that prompted the suspension of the protest and restoration of normal operations across FCTA offices.

The planned demonstration was part of efforts by organised labour to press home demands related to workers’ welfare and administrative issues within the FCT. However, details of the agreements reached during the meeting were not immediately disclosed.

Officials of both labour centres urged affected workers to comply with the directive and return to their duty posts, signalling a temporary resolution of the dispute.

Authorities are expected to continue engagements with labour representatives to address outstanding concerns and prevent further industrial action.
