By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit, three car snatchers, and recovered eight AK-47 magazines, 50 rounds of live ammunition, and a stolen vehicle.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrests and recoveries.

According to the statement, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by SP Sani Ibrahim, acted on credible intelligence to intercept and arrest a 22-year-old suspect, Aliyu Umar, in Zaria.

“On December 16, 2024, at about 1800 hours, operatives successfully apprehended Aliyu Umar. He was found in possession of eight AK-47 magazines and 50 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition,” the statement read.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was part of a notorious bandit gang operating in Zamfara State. Umar confessed that he had traveled to Barkin Ladi, Jos, to retrieve the weapons from an accomplice whose identity is still unknown.

In another operation on the same day, police operatives posed as prospective buyers after receiving intelligence about a group attempting to sell a vehicle under suspicious circumstances.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspects:

  • Kefas Danladi (24) from Gora Gan, Zangon Kataf, Kaduna,
  • Usman Salisu (23) from Unguwan Muazu, Kaduna, and
  • Yusuf Danladi (22) from Kauru, Kaduna.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to stealing the vehicle from a residence in Naval Quarters, Asokoro, Abuja. The stolen Toyota Avalon has been recovered and secured at the police station. The rightful owner has been contacted and notified of the recovery.

Further investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
