Kaduna Climate Experts Set to Discuss Return of Monthly Sanitation Exercise

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Climate experts in Kaduna will on Friday, 28 November 2025, hold a climate round-table discussion to examine the return of the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise. The session, which serves as this month’s “Climate Hangout,” will take place at the Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC) along Constitution Road, Kaduna, beginning at 9:30 a.m.The event is being organized by the Desk of Climate Change and Environmental Issues at the Interfaith Mediation Center in partnership with African Climate Reporters (ACR) and the Office of the Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Climate Change. According to the organizers, the forum aims to strengthen dialogue on climate action and environmental sustainability within the state.Invitations have been extended to scientists, environmentalists, geologists, environmental journalists, and civil society groups working on climate and environmental issues. The organizers noted that the gathering will provide a platform for experts and stakeholders to exchange insights, review ongoing environmental challenges, and propose collective solutions.

A key highlight of the meeting will be a detailed discussion on the reinstatement of Kaduna State’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which is scheduled to resume this weekend. Participants are expected to assess the impact of the policy on waste management, public health, and environmental protection. The session will also feature expert presentations addressing broader climate concerns, including ecosystem degradation, waste disposal patterns, and community participation in environmental governance. Organizers say the goal is to encourage evidence-based recommendations that can support government interventions and community awareness. In a statement, leader of African Climate Reporters, Ibrahima Yakubu, expressed optimism about the turnout and the quality of dialogue expected at the session.“We look forward to welcoming passionate individuals committed to the protection and sustainability of our environment,” he said.

Stakeholders view the renewed sanitation exercise as an important step in improving urban hygiene and promoting climate-resilient practices across Kaduna communities. The round-table is expected to generate actionable ideas that will support the state’s environmental programs and foster stronger collaboration among climate actors. As Kaduna reinstates its sanitation initiative, climate advocates see the engagement of professionals and community groups as essential in ensuring the policy’s long-term success. The Climate Hangout, they note, provides a timely opportunity to align expert opinion with community needs while reinforcing the state’s environmental goals.
