Kaduna LP Chairmen Declare Support for Nenadi Usman’s Leadership

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Fifteen local government chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State have declared their support for Senator Nenadi Usman as the chairperson of the party’s national caretaker committee. The chairmen, representing the three senatorial districts of the state, commended Usman’s leadership, citing her remarkable efforts during the 2023 general elections.

Led by Elder Yusuf Solomon Danbaiki, the Kaduna State LP interim committee chairman, the group expressed their support during a press conference in Kaduna on Monday. The chairmen described Usman’s appointment as well-deserved and praised her extensive political experience.

“We, the 15 local government chairmen of the Labour Party, representing the three senatorial districts of Kaduna State, extend our warmest congratulations to Senator Nenadi Usman on her well-deserved appointment as chairperson of the Labour Party national caretaker committee,” they said.

The appointment follows the end of Barr. Julius Abure’s tenure as leader of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Speaking on behalf of the group, Comrade Hosea Jonathan, LP Chairman for Kaura LGA, highlighted Usman’s long-standing service to the nation, noting her roles as a former commissioner, minister, and senator.

“Sen. Nenadi Usman has made significant contributions to the growth of our state and the nation. Her efforts during the 2023 elections have not gone unnoticed,” Jonathan said.

The chairmen also expressed confidence in Usman’s ability to reposition the party, emphasizing her integrity, hard work, and selfless service. They anticipated her leadership would foster inclusive congresses from the ward level to the national convention.

“We proudly declare our unwavering support for Sen. Usman’s appointment and our dedication to advancing the Labour Party’s mission across all local government areas in Kaduna State,” they added.

The group also expressed their appreciation to outgoing leaders, including His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, the executive governor of Abia State, and LP leader Mr. Peter Obi, for their efforts in rescuing the party from a crisis by appointing Usman.

“We call upon all party members in Kaduna to unite in support of the national caretaker committee as they begin this important task,” they said.

The conference was attended by several local government chairmen, including Comrade Abraham Yerima, the Chikun LG Labour Party chairman and head of the Association of All Labour Party Chairmen in Kaduna State.

In an interview, Danbaiki denied claims of internal crises within the state party, attributing the recent interim committee’s formation to the failure of the previous state executive to convene a congress after the expiration of their tenure. He assured that the interim committee would organize a state congress within the constitutionally stipulated period.
