Kaduna: Nigerian army recruit hacked to death, N800,000 withdrawn from his account

A young Nigerian Army recruit (name withheld), has been reportedly hacked to death in Zaria, Kaduna state, northwest Nigeria.

The lifeless body of the deceased recruit was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning around popular PZ area in Sabon Gari LGA of the state, along with machetes cut on his neck.

The recruit was reportedly hacked to death by people suspected to be his fellow recruit applicants and withdrawn about N800,000 from his bank account.

A witness who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the deceased, who hailed from Gombe State, had earlier told his friends that his parents sent close to a million naira into his account to facilitate his recruitment into the Army.

The witness added that on Friday afternoon, the deceased even gave out his ATM card and password to one of the friends to withdrew N10,000 to buy food for both of them.

“We suspect that these friends are behind the killing of this innocent man because they know that he has money and they have his ATM password,” the witness disclosed.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria, according to the witness.

The Army Depot and the Nigerian police are yet to come out with any official statements on the incident up to the time of filing this report.
