The Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to expand renewable energy access, attract investment, and promote sustainable industrial growth across the state.
The collaboration was formalized during the Renewable Energy Roundtable held in Kaduna and jointly organized by the REA and the Kaduna Power Supply Company (KAPSCO). The event, themed “From Policy to Impact: Sustaining the New Kaduna State Electricity Market for Access, Investment & Industrial Growth,” brought together policymakers, investors, and energy experts to advance subnational energy transition efforts in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to building a transparent and investor-friendly electricity market driven by innovation and sustainability.
“Our administration is fully committed to developing a modern electricity market that encourages investment, supports industrial growth, and ensures affordable and reliable power for our citizens,” Governor Sani said in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Ahmed Maiyaki.
“Through this partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency, we are taking deliberate steps to power communities, empower businesses, and strengthen our economic base,” he added.
A major highlight of the roundtable was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kaduna State Government and the REA. The agreement focuses on implementing tailored electrification strategies and sustainable decentralized solar power solutions to serve unserved and underserved communities.
Governor Sani emphasized that Kaduna is strategically positioned to become a national model for renewable energy development, leveraging its vast solar, biomass, and hydro potential to power industries and uplift rural communities.
“Kaduna is blessed with enormous renewable energy resources,” he stated. “With the right partnerships and sound policies, we are determined to transform this potential into tangible results—powering industries, uplifting communities, and leaving no one behind.”
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the REA, Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, lauded Governor Sani’s leadership and commitment to advancing energy access through innovation.
“Governor Uba Sani’s leadership has created a framework that promotes innovation and investor confidence,” Aliyu said. “Our collaboration with Kaduna will support mini-grids, off-grid projects, and rural electrification schemes that will improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth.”
The partnership is expected to strengthen Kaduna State’s capacity to design and implement electrification strategies that will extend reliable power access to rural areas while supporting mini-grid and off-grid projects. It also aims to promote Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to attract investment, reduce dependence on the national grid, and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the implementation of Kaduna State’s Energy Transition and Industrialization Plan, aligning with Nigeria’s broader commitment to sustainable energy development and inclusive economic growth.
