Kaduna: PDP Rejects Bye-Elections Outcome, Threatens Legal Action

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has rejected the outcome of the three constituency bye-elections held last Saturday, describing the process as flawed and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government of deploying “gestapo and commando tactics” during the polls, alleging vote buying, fund seizure, and the abduction of its candidate and campaign committee members in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.

The PDP said the conduct of the election showed the ruling party’s desperation, adding that it would meet with its candidates, stakeholders, and legal team to decide on the next course of action.

The statement also condemned the low voter turnout, attributing it to a lack of public confidence in the electoral process and Governor Uba Sani’s failure to conduct the 2024 local government elections in the state.

“If this undemocratic trend continues, voter apathy will worsen and reach a dangerous peak by 2027,” the party warned.

Despite rejecting the results, the PDP expressed appreciation to voters in Basawa, Zaria Kewaye, and Chikun/Kajuru constituencies for their support, promising ongoing reforms to strengthen its structures and restore fairness in the democratic process.
