The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected criminal responsible for stabbing and killing a passerby in order to steal his mobile phone near Kawo Flyover. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.
In a statement on Sunday, the police spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, identified the suspect as Aminu Lawal ‘M’, popularly known as “Aminu Yayyafi.” Lawal has reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on March 28, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., near Mamu Oil, just meters from Kawo Flyover. A gang of criminals reportedly attacked an innocent passerby to dispossess him of his phone.
“Police operatives stationed under the bridge promptly responded and rushed the victim to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, the victim later died and was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty,” the statement said.
Following the incident, detectives quickly mobilized, leading to the arrest of Aminu Lawal. Police confirmed that efforts are being intensified to locate and prosecute his accomplices under relevant laws.
The Commissioner of Police has directed the Area Commander, the Divisional Police Officer, and tactical teams to be deployed immediately to Kawo Flyover to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Authorities assured the public that ongoing investigations aim to bring all those involved to justice, urging residents to remain calm and cooperative while security forces handle the matter.
Attempts to reach DSP Mansir Hassan for further comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
