Kaduna Police Confirm Kidnapping of Journalists and Their Families

By Milcah Tanimu

The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two journalists and their families in the Danhonu community of Millennium City, Kaduna, on Saturday night.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the state command spokesman, assured the public that police operatives had been deployed to the area where the kidnappers were believed to be hiding with the hostages. He emphasized that efforts were underway to secure their release.

The victims include Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Kaduna State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and a correspondent for The Nation Newspaper, along with three of his family members. Also kidnapped were Abdulraheem Aodo, a correspondent for Blueprint Newspaper, and his wife. Aodo’s wife was released the following morning due to ill health.

Chris Isiguzo, President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), condemned the kidnappings, describing them as barbaric and unacceptable. He called on security agencies, including the DSS, police, and military, to ensure the safe release of the journalists.

Isiguzo expressed concern over the physical and psychological trauma inflicted on the victims, especially the young children involved. He urged the government to take all necessary actions to rescue the abductees from the kidnappers.
