Kaduna train attack: Nothing to show Nigerians elected retired General – CSO

A Civil Society Organisation, Adopt a Goal Initiative, on Tuesday, condemned in strong terms the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna rail by terrorists.

The group’s coordinator, Dare Ariyo-Atoye, in an interview with The PUNCH decried the failure of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to tackle insecurity and protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.

The PUNCH had reported how a group of terrorists on Monday night bombed the Abuja-Kaduna rail and attacked the train filled with passengers.

Ariyo-Atoye said, “How many more Nigerians will die because we are led by a tired President who has refused to resign or find a solution to security challenges that a competent leader can address?

“The attack on the Abuja-Kaduna rail had been long predicted, but because the President and his Ministerial appointee, Rotimi Amaechi, lack the proactive knowledge of leadership, they were unable to prevent an avoidable tragic incident.

“General Buhari has perpetually refused to sincerely order a surgical military intervention to remove these cancerous vampires killing and maiming our people and terrorising our country because, for him, tribal blood is thicker than justice and national interest.

“After seven years, there is nothing tangible to show that we elected a retired Major General to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property; it has been sorrow, blood and tears for the people of Nigeria under General Buhari.

“It has become obvious that the problem is more of the tragic failure of the political leadership in the executive and legislative arms; they are unable to do what their counterparts in other parts of the world have done to guarantee the security and welfare of their people.

“Either in-country or in the global markets, the military technology and manpower to deal with these marauders are very available, but compromises here and there to protect tribal interests have undermined our entire security architecture and surveillance capacity.

“Repeatedly, The PUNCH Newspaper and other media organisations have criticised and admonished General Buhari to rise above tribal sentiment, but he refused to heed their calls; it is the extension of this narrowness and selfishness that has made the war against insurgency essentially created by Fulanis very difficult.”
