Kano Emirship Tussle to Be Resolved Soon – Commissioner

The Kano State Government says the ongoing emirate leadership dispute will be resolved soon, assuring residents that steps are being taken to restore peace and stability.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, gave the assurance on Thursday while speaking to journalists in Kano. He said the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf is engaging stakeholders through dialogue to prevent the issue from fueling tension or disrupting governance.

According to Waiya, the government’s approach is anchored on respect for the rule of law, traditional institutions, and the collective interest of Kano residents.

“The Kano emirship tussle will soon be resolved amicably because the state government is committed to dialogue with stakeholders,” he said.

The dispute followed the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano in May 2024 after the removal of Aminu Ado Bayero. The development came after Governor Yusuf signed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which repealed the 2019 law and dissolved the emirate councils created under the previous administration.

Waiya also spoke on Governor Yusuf’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress, saying the move would strengthen ties with the Federal Government and attract more projects and interventions to the state.

He added that the deputy governor’s decision not to defect remains a personal choice, stressing that the government’s priority remains governance, unity, and development.
