Kano Hisbah’s Unconventional Collaboration with TikTokers: Marriages and Business Support

By Milcah Tanimu

The Kano Hisbah, led by Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, has taken an unusual step by announcing plans to arrange marriages for TikTokers in Kano while also offering support for their business ventures. This initiative was unveiled during a meeting convened by the Hisbah to provide guidance to TikTokers on enhancing their moral values.

During this meeting, popular TikToker Murja Ibrahim Kunya, known for her controversial content that often sparks debates in Kano state, and other notable TikTokers were invited to the Kano State Hisbah Command’s headquarters for potential rehabilitation on November 6th, 2023, at 4 pm.

The invitation, issued by the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, encouraged attendees to bring their educational and business certificates while ensuring their identities remained protected by covering their faces.

The primary objective of this gathering is to offer support to those interested in receiving assistance from the state’s governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf. In response to the invitation, TikTokers arrived in substantial numbers, donned in full traditional attire and veiling their faces with niqabs.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of the Hisbah board, unveiled the scheme, stating, “We are willing to give you all the necessary support to live a sustainable life. For those of you with fiancées or those interested in marriage, we promise to organize a grand wedding and cover all the expenses.” He also provided advice to popular TikTokers, including Murja Kunya, on improving their moral conduct.

Sheikh Daurawa revealed that TikTok users in need of capital support should prepare a business plan and submit it to the Hisbah board. If they meet the board’s satisfaction, the Kano government will provide them with capital.

This initiative, which has the approval of Kano Governor Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, is designed to assist youth in the region and promote moral growth.

The TikTokers responded positively to the offer and engaged in discussions with senior Hisbah officials. To show their commitment to this endeavor, the Hisbah provided N2,000 in transport fare to TikTok participants in these discussions.

This unexpected partnership between TikTokers and the Kano Hisbah seeks to empower the youth and enhance moral values within the local TikTok community.
