The Kano State Government has congratulated African Independent Television (AIT) on its 29th anniversary, describing the broadcaster as a strategic partner in Nigeria’s nation-building and democratic development.
In a statement issued on behalf of the state government, the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, praised AIT for nearly three decades of professional, impactful, and responsible broadcasting. He said the station’s consistent commitment to credible journalism has contributed significantly to shaping public opinion and promoting national progress.
According to the statement, AIT has played a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture by ensuring citizens have access to accurate and timely information. The government noted that this role has helped deepen civic awareness and encouraged active public participation in governance across the country.
The Kano State Government further highlighted AIT’s contribution to value reorientation through its editorial direction and programming. It stated that the station has consistently promoted ethics, national unity, social responsibility, and respect for Nigeria’s cultural and ethnic diversity.
Over the years, the statement said, AIT has nurtured informed public discourse by amplifying citizens’ voices and creating platforms for constructive debate. This, it added, has supported transparency and accountability in governance through balanced reporting and in-depth analysis of national issues.
The government also commended AIT for its consistent and fair coverage of developments in Kano State. It noted that the station’s reporting has helped keep residents informed about government policies, programmes, and achievements, thereby strengthening public understanding and engagement.
“The objective and professional manner in which AIT covers issues concerning Kano State has contributed to better communication between the government and the people,” the statement said.
The Kano State Government extended its appreciation to AIT’s management, editors, journalists, and other staff for upholding high standards of professionalism, ethics, and responsible broadcasting throughout the station’s 29 years of operation.
It acknowledged the challenges facing the media industry, including rapid technological changes and increasing demands for speed and accuracy in news reporting. Despite these challenges, the government noted that AIT has continued to maintain credibility and public trust.
As AIT marks its 29th anniversary, the Kano State Government urged the station to remain steadfast in its commitment to truth, objectivity, and national cohesion. It emphasized the importance of responsible journalism in fostering unity and stability, especially in a diverse and evolving society like Nigeria.
The government reaffirmed its readiness to continue engaging with credible media organisations such as AIT in the collective effort to promote good governance, informed citizenship, and sustainable national development.
AIT, one of Nigeria’s leading private broadcast stations, has remained a prominent voice in the country’s media landscape since its establishment, with a reputation for news, current affairs, and public interest programming.
